Whatever the Whether….

Raining cats and dogs, hats and clogs

Whether the weather be fine,

Or whether the weather be not,

Whether the weather be cold,

Or whether the weather be hot,

We’ll weather the weather Whatever the weather,

Whether we like it or not!

ANON

For years, I have wanted to expand and illustrate this poem for my kids.

Whether it be raining cats, or whether it be raining cats and dogs, hats or clogs, bats or frogs….

That sort of thing.

With my daughter turning 13 this month, I have missed that boat.

I now have in mind to do an updated version that addresses the myriad of challenges that life has thrown at us all in recent times and the need for a new response.

Covid, changes in government, rising interest rates, the war in Europe…. The list goes on.

Maybe a weathering of the financial storm verse.

Whether we are challenged by inundated coasts or escalating costs.

Or whether we all face a global recession, or the Ukrainians facing Russian aggression,

Whether you are woke, or just going broke.

In The Power of Now, Eckhardt Tolle points out that when faced with a change to our circumstances, we have a maximum of three choices, whether we like it or not. We can accept, walk away, or attempt to change the situation.

Change is at the heart of creativity. Creativity is needed as a response, not a reaction to the new obstacles we constantly face. Creativity is like a muscle. It needs to be conditioned to have a creative mind(un)set to allow for an effective response.

If you don’t think you have a creative orientation, the best place to start is with curiosity. Asking the simple question. What if?

The changes will keep on coming, whether you like it or not!

Change is at the heart of creativity. More than ever, creativity is needed as a response, not a reaction to the new obstacles we constantly face. Creativity is like a muscle, it needs to be conditioned in order to have a creative mind(un)set to allow for an effective response.

PS. I find the hardest part of a creative project is starting. Now that I have finally completed one Whatever the (Fair)weather watercolour, I am thinking I will put it back on the list.
